Choose who gets celebrated

You can reserve birthday messages, roles, or list entries for members with roles you choose and control when the celebration sends a ping. You can also exclude individual members or everyone with a particular role from birthday celebrations.

Open your server dashboard

For example, suppose your server gives a role called "Verified" to members who finish your welcome process. Add Verified as a trusted role and turn on the birthday Message requirement: verified members can get birthday messages, while other members cannot. Turn on Role and List appearance too if those should have the same restriction. Ping controls the announcement's ping, as explained below.

On the website

Open your server and choose Trusted roles.
Under Roles, press + Add role and choose the role members should need.
In the birthday card, turn on each action that should require a trusted role: Message, Role, Ping, or List appearance.
With Premium, choose Any role or All roles (it matters once you have more than one trusted role).
Use Member check to see who passes your draft trusted-role rules. Search for a member if you want to check a specific person.
Press Save changes.

What success looks like

The save bar says Changes saved. Your chosen roles remain listed, and Member check shows which members pass for each action.

This is a check of trusted roles, not a guarantee that a birthday will be announced. Members still need a visible birthday, and the server still needs a working channel and message. See A birthday was not announced.

Do I need trusted roles at all?

No. When no trusted roles are configured, everyone passes this check. Leave the list empty if you want birthdays open to everyone who has not hidden their birthday or been blacklisted.

Free servers can use 1 trusted role. Premium servers can use 250. Without Premium, only the first saved trusted role counts, even if more remain saved from an earlier subscription.

Which parts of a birthday should require a role?

Each switch adds a requirement when it is on:

Switch	What turning it on requires
Message	Each member must pass to get a birthday announcement.
Role	Each member must pass to get the birthday role.
Ping	At least one member receiving a birthday message must pass, or the shared ping is omitted.
List appearance	Each member must pass to appear in the birthday list.

The ping belongs to the whole announcement, not to each member in it. If Message is off but Ping is on, a trusted member can allow the ping to be sent for a group that also includes untrusted members. A ping that mentions the celebrating members can then mention both.

Turning a switch off means that action does not require a trusted role. Other rules, such as privacy, still apply. The member anniversary card has separate requirements and needs Premium.

Should a member need any role or all of them?

With Any role, holding any configured trusted role is enough. With All roles, a member must hold every configured trusted role. Changing this choice needs Premium.

For example, with Verified and Regular as your trusted roles, Any role accepts someone who has only Verified. All roles accepts them only after they also have Regular. The choice applies to the actions whose switches are on.

How do I exclude someone from birthdays?

Open Blacklist. Press + Add user to select an individual, or + Add role to exclude everyone holding that role, then press Save changes.

A blacklisted member gets no birthday message, birthday role, or birthday ping. Having a trusted role does not override the blacklist. The blacklist applies to birthdays; member anniversary celebrations use their own trusted-role rules.

Common problems

A member passes Member check but is not announced. Ask the member to confirm they have set their birthday for this server, check Blacklist, then follow A birthday was not announced.
A member gets a message but no birthday role. The Role switch may require trust even when Message does not. Check the member's result, then follow The birthday role was not given or not removed.
A member without a trusted role is still announced. Adding a role alone does not turn on the Message requirement. Check that switch, and use Member check to confirm your rule.
