A birthday was not announced

If a birthday was not announced, start with the birthday channel and its permission warnings, then check the member's birthday and the server's rules. A saved birthday alone does not guarantee an announcement in every server.

On the website

1. Choose the server and open Birthdays. Check Birthday channel.
2. Open Overview and follow any permission warning. After fixing it in Discord, press ↻ Re-check.
3. If the channel works, use the checks below for the affected member.

What success looks like

An eligible member gets a birthday announcement in the selected channel when their birthday reaches the server's configured post hour. A test can post a real celebration immediately, as described at the end of this page.

No birthday channel is selected

Check: On Birthdays, look at Birthday channel. Without a channel, the bot has nowhere to post.

Fix: Choose a channel and press Save changes. Follow Set up birthday celebrations to finish the setup.

Birthday Bot cannot post in that channel

Check: Open the warning beside Birthday channel, or the matching warning on Overview.

Fix: Grant the permissions the warning names in Discord, then press ↻ Re-check. Missing permissions explains the paths and what each permission does.

The birthday is missing or hidden in this server

Check: Ask the member to confirm they have set their birthday for this server. To other members and server staff, a hidden birthday looks the same as one that has never been set. The member can check their own My birthday and Per-server overrides in My settings.

Fix: If they want to be celebrated, they can set their birthday and change the relevant privacy setting to show it. Server staff cannot replace that privacy choice with a server celebration setting.

Trusted roles or the blacklist exclude the member

Check: On Trusted roles, use Member check and look at the birthday Message result. Then check Blacklist for the member and their roles.

Fix: Give the member the required role if they should qualify, change the birthday Message requirement, or remove the relevant blacklist entry. Save your changes. Choose who gets celebrated explains how these rules combine.

The birthday was added after today's post hour

Check: Compare when the birthday was added with Post time and Timezone on Birthdays. Server settings explains whose clock the bot follows.

Fix: Server staff can use the test command below to post a birthday message for that member by hand. Keeping the birthday saved lets it be considered normally next year. If the clock itself is wrong, follow A message was posted at the wrong time.

A default message appeared instead of my custom message

Check: Review whether the custom message needs a detail the member has not shared, such as an age. When no eligible custom birthday message remains, Birthday Bot uses its built-in message.

Fix: Edit the message so it works with the available details. See When a placeholder cannot be filled in and Customize your messages.

Using Discord instead

The settings command shows the server's saved configuration, and the channel-permissions command checks the announcement channel. The test command refreshes permissions, runs a celebration, and reports what happened. It can post a real message and give roles.
