Add Birthday Bot to a server

On this page

Press Add to Discord on this website, choose the server in the Discord window that opens, and confirm. You need Manage Server permission on that server. The invite already selects the permissions Birthday Bot needs.

On the website

  1. Press Add to Discord on the home page. Or sign in, open your dashboard, and press + Add next to a server that does not have the bot yet.
  2. In the Discord window, choose the server. Discord lists only the servers where you have Manage Server.
  3. Leave the permissions as they are and confirm. Each one is used by a feature, and the dashboard warns you if one goes missing later.

What success looks like

Birthday Bot appears in the server's member list, its slash commands are available there, and the server shows Manage on your dashboard. The bot posts no celebrations until one is set up.

When it can, it posts a welcome message in the server's system channel or a bot channel, and sends the same message to the server owner by direct message. Its setup line links to that server's dashboard, and its line about setting your birthday links to My settings on this website.

The first time you open a server dashboard, a short welcome tour introduces its sections. You can finish it or skip it. Opening another existing server does not repeat the introduction. If adding the bot to a new server takes you to its dashboard, the tour is offered there too, unless you have already finished or skipped it for that server.

To replay the tour, open that dashboard, then open your account menu (your avatar in the top corner) and press Replay welcome tour.

What to set up first

  1. Set up birthday celebrations: the server's time zone and the channel where birthdays are announced.
  2. Ask members to set their birthday. A birthday set once works in every server the member shares with the bot.
  3. When you want more: custom messages, member anniversaries, or custom events.

Common problems

  • My server is not in the Discord window. Discord lists only servers where your account has Manage Server. Ask the server owner for that permission, or ask them to add the bot.
  • The bot is in the server, but its commands do not show. See I cannot use a command.
  • The bot cannot post or give a role. Open the server's dashboard and read its permission warnings; see Birthday Bot is missing permissions.
  • I pressed Add to Discord, and nothing changed on the dashboard. Reload the dashboard. If the server still shows + Add, the invite was not completed in Discord; press it again and confirm there.

Using Discord instead

Open Birthday Bot's profile in any server that has it and press Add App, then choose the server. Discord's App Directory offers the same button.
