Let Birthday Bot create roles and channels

The dashboard can create a birthday role or text channel in Discord and save it to your birthday settings in the same step. Open the relevant picker on Birthdays to get started.

On the website

1. Open your server, choose Birthdays, and find Announcement.
2. Open Birthday role and choose Create a new role, or open Birthday channel and choose Create a new channel.
3. For a role, choose Name and Color, then review Show separately in member list and Mentionable. Press Create role.
4. For a channel, choose Name, Category, and Who can post. Review Birthday Bot can for any missing abilities, then press Create channel.
5. Read the status under the picker. Successful creation saves that role or channel immediately. Use Save changes for any other edits on the page.

What success looks like

The new role or channel appears in Discord and is selected in your birthday settings. A status line under the picker tells you whether it was saved and whether anything needs attention.

What kind of role gets created?

The birthday role starts with the suggested name 🎂 Birthday. You can change its name, color, whether it appears as a separate group in the member list, and whether people can mention it.

The new role grants no server permissions. Birthday Bot places it just below its own role, or just below your birthday role if one is already set. If Discord will not let it move the role, the status line says so and asks you to drag it higher in Server Settings, under Roles, so its color shows.

What kind of channel gets created?

It is a text channel with a birthday announcement topic. Who can post offers Only Birthday Bot or Everyone. The first choice sets the channel’s default permissions so members cannot send messages there.

The Birthday Bot can checklist shows the abilities the new channel can give the bot. Creation cannot grant a permission the bot does not already hold, so fix any missing abilities shown before relying on that feature.

Which permissions does creation need?

Creating a role needs Manage Roles for Birthday Bot. Creating a channel needs Manage Channels. If you choose a category, the bot also needs permission to view and send messages in that category, as well as manage channels there.

Common problems

• Creation says a permission is missing. Grant the permission named in the form and press Try again. For a blocked category, choose another category or Use No category when offered. See Missing permissions.
• Discord's role or channel limit was reached. Choose Pick existing, or remove something your server no longer needs before trying again.
• The role or channel exists but was not saved. The status line reads "Created in Discord, but it couldn't be saved." The new item is already filled in for you, so press Save changes to finish.
• The role was created but members do not receive it. Check the permission warning next to Birthday role, then follow The birthday role was not given or not removed.
