Ask the help assistant
On this page
The assistant is the round button with the bot's logo in the corner of every Help Center page, of the Premium page, of your server's dashboard, and of My settings. Ask a question in your own words and it answers from these articles, listing the ones it used under the answer. Closing the panel keeps the conversation; New chat starts over. From the Premium page, the dashboard, or My settings, a listed article opens in a new tab so your conversation and any unsaved changes stay.
What it knows
- On the Help Center, it knows only what these articles say. If the articles do not cover a question, it says so and points you to the support server.
- On your server's dashboard, it also sees that server's current settings, the same ones the dashboard shows you: which channels and roles are set, what Premium would unlock, and any permission problems. So it can say why a birthday was not announced on your server, not only in general.
- On My settings, it also sees your own settings as that page shows them: your birthday, your time zone, your privacy defaults, and your per-server exceptions with the names of those servers. So it can say who sees your birthday, not only how the setting works.
An answer that used your server's or your own settings says so above the answer (Checked …). It cannot change anything. It tells you where on the website to make the change, often with a button that takes you there.
Limits
- One question can be up to 1,000 characters.
- A conversation keeps your last 10 questions; older ones are forgotten.
- A visitor who is not signed in can ask a few questions an hour; signing in allows more. The whole site also answers a limited number a day. When either limit is reached the panel says so, and the Help Center search still works.
What is kept
Questions and answers are kept for 30 days, so questions the articles could not answer can become new articles, then deleted. On the dashboard and on My settings, a conversation is linked to your Discord account (and, on the dashboard, the server it was about); on the Help Center it is not linked to you. Clearing your birthday (on My settings or with the purge command) deletes the conversations linked to your account right away. Each question, with the conversation so far and the settings the assistant can see where you asked, is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce the answer. Asking a question also adds one count to the site's own analytics, with where you asked (the Help Center or Premium page, a server's dashboard, or My settings), never the question, your account, or the server. See Your privacy.
Common problems
- The button is not there. The assistant is switched on gradually and can be off for a while. Use the search box instead.
- The button is dimmed. The assistant is unavailable for a few minutes after a problem on our side, such as the AI service refusing our requests. It comes back on its own; the Help Center search still works.
- I want to go back to the conversation. Closing the panel keeps it, and so does opening a listed article from the Help Center. Leaving the dashboard or My settings for another page starts a new one there.
- The answer stops early. Long answers are cut off on purpose. Ask a narrower question for the rest.
- The answer is wrong. Answer Was this helpful? under it so the article can be improved, and follow the listed article instead.
