Set your birthday
On this page
You set your birthday once, on the website or in Discord, and it works in every server that has Birthday Bot. You need a month, a day, and a time zone. The year is optional.
On the website
- Press Login with Discord, open the account menu (your avatar, top right), and choose My settings.
- Under My birthday, pick your Month and Day.
- Leave Year (optional) on "Not set" unless you want your age celebrated. See Do I have to share my birth year?
- Pick My timezone. Not sure what yours is called? The Find my timezone link next to the field looks it up for you.
- Press Save changes in the bar at the bottom of the page.
What success looks like
The bar at the bottom says Changes saved. From then on, servers that have birthdays set up post something like this on your day:
The exact message, the channel, and whether you get a birthday role are up to each server.
Why does Birthday Bot need my time zone?
So your birthday starts when your day starts. Without a time zone, a member in Sydney and a member in Los Angeles would both be celebrated at the same moment, which is the wrong day for one of them.
Each server chooses whose clock to follow. Some celebrate everyone on the server's time zone, others celebrate each member on their own. Your time zone is used in servers that chose the second option.
Do I have to share my birth year?
No. With only a month and a day, Birthday Bot celebrates your birthday and never shows an age anywhere.
If you add a year, servers can mention how old you are turning, but only if you also allow it: showing your age is turned off for everyone until they switch it on. Your privacy explains how. You can set the year back to "Not set" at any time. Discord requires its users to be at least 13, so a year that would make you younger than that is not accepted.
Born on February 29?
Pick February 29. In years without a leap day you are celebrated on February 28.
Common problems
- "Pick your timezone." A birthday cannot be saved without a time zone. The two are always saved together.
- "That birthday hasn't happened yet." The year you picked puts your birthday in the future. Check the year, or set it to "Not set".
- I set my birthday today and nothing was posted. Each server posts its birthday messages at a set hour. If you add your birthday on the day itself after that hour has passed, you are not announced this year unless a member of that server's staff posts it by hand with
/test. Next year it happens on its own. See A birthday was not announced. - I saved my birthday but a server did not celebrate it. Your birthday may be hidden in that server, or the server may not have birthdays set up yet. Check Your privacy first, then ask that server's staff to follow A birthday was not announced.
- I want to remove my birthday. Use Clear my birthday on the same page. It removes your birthday and time zone from Birthday Bot everywhere and cannot be undone. If you only want fewer servers to see it, change your privacy settings instead.
Using Discord instead
Type /set in any server with Birthday Bot, or in a direct message with the bot. It asks for your time zone and then your birthday, and shows you the result to confirm before anything is saved. You can also fill everything in at once:
