Server settings

Use General to choose your server's time zone and date and name formats. The choices for whose clock birthdays follow and whether ages appear are on Birthdays.

On the website

1. Open your server and choose General.
2. Pick Server timezone. Find a timezone opens a lookup if you need help choosing.
3. Choose Date format and the Name format for each context.
4. Press Save changes.
5. To change the birthday clock or hide ages, open Birthdays, change Timezone or Disable ages, and save that page too.

What success looks like

The save bar says Changes saved. Your saved formats are selected when you return to General. Members' names use the format you chose for the relevant context.

Which clock should the server follow?

Server timezone gives the server a shared clock. On Birthdays, choose Server's under Timezone to use it for everyone's birthday, or Member's to use each member's own time zone.

For example, with Member's, members in different time zones can receive their birthday messages at different moments, each at the chosen Post time on their own clock. With Server's, the server's clock decides the birthday date and post hour. If no server time zone is set, birthdays use members' time zones.

Does the month or day come first?

Date format offers Month / Day and Day / Month. It tells the bot how to read numeric dates typed in this server, for birthdays and custom events alike. A date such as 04/05 means April 5 with the first choice and May 4 with the second.

This changes how a date is read, not a birthday already saved. On the website, members pick a named month and a separate day.

How should members' names appear?

Choose Mention, Username, Display name, or Global display name.

• Mention writes a Discord member mention.
• Username uses the member's username.
• Display name uses their server nickname, falling back to their global display name and then username.
• Global display name uses their global name, falling back to username.

Do anniversaries use the same clock?

Member anniversaries and server anniversaries always use Server timezone. Set it on General, then choose Post time on each anniversary page. They do not have the birthday member/server timezone choice. Custom events also use the server timezone, with a post time for each event.

Can messages and lists use different names?

Yes. In messages, In lists, and Everywhere else each have their own choice under Name format. This lets you use mentions in announcements and readable names in lists.

Can I hide everyone's age?

On Birthdays, turn on Disable ages under Options and save. It takes priority over members' choices to show their age in this server. Turning it off does not force anyone's age to appear: each member's privacy settings still apply.

Common problems

• Birthdays use the wrong clock. Check both Server timezone on General and Timezone on Birthdays, then follow A message was posted at the wrong time.
• My custom birthday message was not used. A message that requires an age cannot be used when ages are hidden. The bot uses another eligible custom message, or its built-in message if none qualify. See placeholder eligibility.
